Harnessing the Butterfly Effect to Transform Healthcare

Todays Practitioner

LePineFrom protests to twitter rants, the topic of healthcare is top of mind for American citizens, politicians and providers. Despite differences in opinion, we are spending almost 20% of our GDP on healthcare, yet we are getting sicker, fatter and our current generation may not live as long as their parents, say Todd Le Pine MD. Current medical care is based on reductionistic linear thinking for both diagnosis and treatment.

Health is a dynamic balance of both inputs and outputs and we need to understand the basics of complexity theory and chaos mathematics to create dynamic, resilient health. This video by Le Pine, he explores the ‘butterfly effect’ and how, if we can understand this concept, we can begin to transform health in this country.
