Prebiotics and the Goldilock’s Effect: Getting it Just Right for Gut Health Management

SFI Logo
Leah Linder, prebiotics and IBS

While the value of prebiotics for healthy microflora is well established, some individuals may not tolerate inulin, a known high FODMAP (Fermentable Oligo-, Di-, Mono- saccharides and Polyols) nutrient. Short chain carbohydrates may lead to including gas, bloating, and diarrhea, especially for individuals who are new to prebiotics and may have Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

A more gentle option, may be a low-FODMAP, medium-chain soluble fiber made from partially hydrolyzed guar gum, provides the microbiome the fuel it needs but without the excess gas, cramping, or bloating. Learn more on how the right prebiotic that is easier to digest may reduce unwanted side effects, while helping to promote a healthy gut ecology.
