Patients with confirmed or suspected SIBO commonly show dysbiosis on stool testing, including altered beneficial short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) like butyrate, which support gut integrity and reduce inflammation. This creates a clinical dilemma: therapies that support the microbiome and SCFA balance, such as fiber, prebiotics, and probiotics, may worsen SIBO symptoms, while antimicrobials and LFDs can further drive dysbiosis.
